Catcher Owen Carapellotti loves everything about being a professional backstop and he brought that passion over with him from the Athletics organization this past June.
Signed by the Athletics as an undrafted free agent in 2025, Carapellotti credits the A’s for showing him what professional baseball would be like moving forward.
“The A’s gave me my introduction to pro ball,” stated Carapellotti. “The amount of work it was going to take to be successful, how much faster the game moves compared to college, and above all, they gave me my only opportunity to get my foot in the door, and gave me what I needed to take advantage of that opportunity.”
Like many catchers, Carapellotti takes pride in all of the duties of a professional backstop – from game calling to managing a pitching staff.
“I absolutely take pride in my game calling,” said Carapellotti. “The pitchers and I are always working together to get outs, and the pitch we throw in certain situations is super important. The best way I can help the pitchers look good is being on the same page about what we throw and when we throw it. There’s nothing like being behind the plate for a shutout.”
“Knowing when to fire the pitchers up, when to calm them down, it’s all just as important as knowing what pitches to call,” Carapellotti. added. “At the end of the day, I want to be the guy that pitchers want to throw to because I give them the confidence they need to throw what they want and when they want.”
Keep it up, Owen Carapellotti!
