Left-handed pitcher Johnny King is making the most out of his time with High-A Vancouver. King, who pitched in Low-A last season talks about the differences between Dunedin and Vancouver.
“Vancouver is definitely a cool spot,” said King. “I’m very blessed to be here this year. The differences are the fans and the perfect weather here in Vancouver. In Dunedin, you’re on the hotter end of things. Vancouver is different with the fans but I’ve adapted nicely to it.”
Pitching 76 innings to date; King has racked up 100 K’s, with a 3.08 ERA, and a WHIP of 1.34.
Currently using a three-pitch mix of: a 4-seam fastball, a curveball, and a changeup; King talks about how he works off his fastball.
“I try to let my fastball play at the top of the zone,” explained King. “I play both off my off-speeds off the fastball. Changeups to righties, and curveballs to lefties.”
King has a lot of faith in his 55-grade curveball, “Yeah, I really like being able to control it,” King added. “I can throw it in the zone when I need to, and I can throw it in the dirt when I need to put away guys.”
The lefty is studying scouting reports more in High-A, “Definitely less chase from the hitters in High-A,” stated King. “You definitely need to look at your scouting reports and mix up your pitches.”
King has a goal for the rest of his 2026 season, “I’d like to pitch 100 innings, that’d be cool,” said King. “Other than that, I’m going to keep doing what I’m doing, just trying to be as consistent as possible.”
