Outfielder Eddie Rosado Jr has been working hard towards his transition from HS baseball to affiliated baseball.
One thing Rosado did to make the transition a bit smoother was play briefly in the MLB Futures League with the Vermont Lake Monsters.
While in Vermont, Rosado learned how to play in front of 4000 fans and hit increased velo.
“It was definitely a little hard at first,” said Rosado. “But once you see it a couple times, you get used to it.”
Rosado was able to use velo machines in Vermont similar to the ones the Blue Jays’ have at their PDC.
“I’m definitely preparing for it,” explained Rosado. “I’ve hit off a machine a ton, really hard velo, used foam balls to get the spin rates up. I’ve worked on lefty angles, righty angles, just everything.”
At the plate, Rosado likes to hunt for fastballs, and he has good bat-to-ball skills.
“I hunt fastballs early in counts,” stated Rosado. “If there’s a fastball first pitch, I’m going to go after it and put a good swing on it. Mainly, I stay gap-to-gap, and hunt fastballs early in counts.”
“I’d say my bat-to-ball skills are pretty top-notch, but they can definitely get better,” Rosado added. “That has been my thing my whole life. People notice my bat-to-ball skills.”
Rosado has good range in the outfield with a strong arm, “I feel like I can really go get it,” said the 20th round pick. “I’m able to run balls down well. I have plus speed, so that helps a lot.”
Committed to St. Joseph, Rosado plans to forego his collegiate commitment and sign his pro contract.
“I definitely plan to sign,” said Rosado. “I’m excited to get down to Dunedin and get started.”
