In the ever-evolving journey of professional baseball, adaptability often separates prospects from big leaguers. For Ryan Jennings, that evolution has come in the form of a transition to the bullpen—one that is quickly shaping him into a potential impact arm at the highest level.

After a strong 2025 campaign split between Double-A and Triple-A, Jennings is building both the performance résumé and the mindset needed to take the next step in his career.

A Breakout Season on the Mound

Jennings’ 2025 season showcased his ability to miss bats at an elite level. Across 58 innings between Double-A and Triple-A, he racked up 82 strikeouts, emerging as a reliable and dangerous arm out of the bullpen.

The numbers reflect more than just raw stuff—they highlight a pitcher growing into his role and learning how to attack advanced hitters with confidence.

Embracing the Bullpen Role

Originally developed as a starter, Jennings made the transition to the bullpen in 2025—a move that has allowed his arsenal to play up in shorter outings.

“The hardest part of the transition was getting used to the short burst of energy needed as a reliever,” Jennings explained. “As a starter you are mentally prepared for the long haul whereas a reliever it’s a much shorter competitive window.”

Despite the adjustment, he has embraced the role and its opportunities.

“The best part for me is getting to contribute in high-pressure situations and also being able to play in more games,” Jennings said. “As a starter you pitch your game then check out for a few days, but relievers stay locked into the situations of each game.”

That mindset has translated into performance, as Jennings has become increasingly comfortable pitching in key moments.

A Focused Pitching Arsenal

Jennings relies primarily on a three-pitch mix—his four-seam fastball, slider, and curveball—a combination that has proven effective, particularly in relief.

Rather than overhauling his repertoire, he has focused on sharpening what already works.

“No, I haven’t made any significant adjustments—just continuing to sharpen what I have now.”

That approach has allowed him to maximize his strengths, particularly his ability to generate swings and misses with his fastball-slider combination while mixing in his curveball to keep hitters off balance.

Continuing to Develop

Even with his success, Jennings remains focused on refining key areas of his game—especially against left-handed hitters.

“It’s something I have continued to work on and only in-season reps will indicate where I stand there,” he said. “I believe I have found an approach that will allow me to get ahead earlier and hopefully lead to more success.”

His willingness to address weaknesses head-on reflects a pitcher committed to long-term growth.

Learning at the Triple-A Level

Facing more advanced hitters in Triple-A has provided Jennings with valuable experience and perspective.

“The patience and discipline are the biggest difference compared to the lower levels,” Jennings said. “Really forces you to stay on the attack and execute quality pitch after quality pitch.”

That challenge has sharpened his command and reinforced the importance of consistency against hitters who capitalize on mistakes.

A Balanced Offseason Approach

Following a demanding stretch that included the 2024 season, fall league, and 2025 campaign, Jennings made recovery a priority during the offseason.

“The offseason was some much-needed family time and time to recoup and recover,” Jennings said. “After a long year and a half of in-season throwing, it was refreshing to have some time off both mentally and physically.”

That balance has helped him return to the mound recharged and ready for the next phase of his development.

Confidence Gained in Spring Training

Spring training has reinforced Jennings’ belief that he can compete with top-level talent.

“Spring is spring and it has its ups and downs, but it is just all about getting the body right to be able to compete at the highest level I am capable of,” he said.

More importantly, the experience has strengthened his confidence.

“That I am capable of competing and having success with the best in the league. You can think one thing, but the experience of having success really gave me the belief in myself.”

Eyeing the Next Step

With his sights set on the major leagues, Jennings understands exactly what he needs to do to earn a call-up.

“I believe that if I increase my overall strike percentage and reduce my walks, that will put me in a good position to contribute to the big-league team.”

It’s a simple but telling approach—one rooted in execution, consistency, and control.

A Name to Watch

With a swing-and-miss arsenal, growing confidence, and a strong 2025 season behind him, Ryan Jennings is firmly on the radar as a potential future bullpen piece at the major league level.

If he continues to refine his command and build on his success, it may not be long before he gets the opportunity to prove himself on baseball’s biggest stage.
