Right-handed pitcher Tanner Andrews signed with the Toronto Blue Jays’ organization on November 26th. Andrews, a former 10th round pick out of Purdue University is excited for his new opportunity in pro ball.

“Yes, I’m very excited for my new opportunity with the Blue Jays,” said Andrews. “Especially coming off their recent success, so I think it’s a great opportunity to learn and improve. And I think I can bring a another look and really help their bullpen.”

Pitching 309 2/3 innings so far in his minor league career; Andrews has racked up 321 K’s and has a WHIP of 1.32.

The righty talks about his pitch repertoire, “I throw both a 4-seam and 2-seam fastball. Primarily 4-seam. A splitter which is my best pitch, a hard slider/cutter, and I’m currently working on a bigger and slower breaking ball.” explained Andrews.

Getting ahead of counts with his fastball is something that Andrews strives for every outing.

“I challenge with my fastball,” stated Andrews. “It sets up the rest of my pitches.”

And when his fastball is clicking, Andrews can tunnel his other pitches off of it.

“I think my pitches tunnel really well together,” Andrews added. “My 4-seam has good vert as well as some arm-side movement which tunnels really well with my splitter which typically has negative vert and some arm-side movement. My 2-seam has more arm-side and less vert. And my slider stays closer to the 0 vert line with some glove-side movement.”

Pitching in three organizations and Indy Ball before joining Toronto, Andrews talks about his pro journey to date.

“I played in three organizations and Indy Ball,” said Andrews. “I was drafted by the Marlins in 2018, minor league Rule 5 pick to the Braves and immediately traded to the Giants. And I pitched in Indy Ball and with the Twins organization last season. Each of those experiences has helped shaped me into the pitcher I am today. I’ve taken something different from each place that has helped me grow as a pitcher.”
