Prospect Tucker Toman had his best full year at the plate in 2025. For Toman, his big year began in spring training as the coaching staff helped him refine his swing and pitch selection.

“Yeah, a lot of it stems from me changing my approach and looking for good pitches to hit,” explained Toman. “I’m looking for pitches in the middle of the zone and hit them. When things weren’t going well, I was missing them. That was something I was working on with our coaches the last couple years on how I can get good pitches to hit and not miss them.”

Toman slashed .265/.354/.372 with an OPS of .726 after 366 at-bats between Low-A and High-A.

“The pitching was more in the zone in High-A,” stated Toman. “The pitchers were definitely throwing more strikes which was good for me. There was a difference in the arms too. Every guy they put out there was pretty good. They all had something, whether they throw 95+ or they have a good off-speed pitch. Definitely still hittable. The biggest difference was the quality of the pitchers for sure.”

Another contributing factor to Toman’s production was figuring out who he was as a hitter in spring training.

“I had a very productive spring training thanks to the hitting department helping me fidure out what does Tucker Toman look like,” Toman added. “What does Tucker Toman look like at his best? They literally helped me tap into that with two days left in spring training.”

The prospect is also adding versatility to his game, as he appeared in nine games at first base and one in LF in 2025.

“I’m developing well at first,” said Toman. “It’s definitely an adjustment as you’re moving a lot.”

Toman got some extra help at first base from Infield Coordinator Donnie Murphy.

“Donnie made sure I was staying athletic since he played the position a little in his career,” Toman added. “He helped me with the footwork and knowing where I need to be.”

Back home in South Carolina, Toman is focusing on his strength this off-season.

“I’m focusing on getting stronger,” said Toman. “I was stronger than I’ve ever been this year and it paid off. You see it all-around, the guys who are strong and hit the ball hard are the guys who are constantly moving up. I’m focusing on my physicality and trying to remain healthy.”

Be sure to follow Tucker Toman in 2026, as he continues to hit well and be versatile in the Toronto Blue Jays’ system.
