Left-handed pitcher Carson Myers is getting acclimated to pitching in pro ball with Low-A Dunedin.

“I’m aggressive and always on the attack when I’m on the mound,” said Myers. “Coming to pro ball at first I was a little bit timid, so I was getting away from myself as I was just trying to get a feel for what pro ball is like. But now that I have a good understanding, it’s going after guys. That’s my identity, getting ahead and trying to end the at-bat in less than four pitches. That’s the motto that I go by, just attack, attack, attack, and be the aggressor. I want them to make the mistake.”

Pitching 8 1/3 innings so far in pro ball; Myers has 9 K’s and an ERA of 3.24.

Currently using a four-pitch mix of: a 4-seam fastball, a sinker, a slider, and a splitter; Myers likes to get ahead in counts with his 4-seamer.

“I’d say I try to play everything off my 4-seam fastball just because that’s my go-to pitch as of right now,” explained Myers. “If I throw that pitch and a hitter fouls it, I might throw a splitter down-and-away to see if I get a chase. If I throw a 4-seam middle-in, and I get lucky with it, I’ll read their swing and go slider backfoot.”

And as a lefty Myers takes pride in being tough against left-handed hitters.

“Being left-handed is definitely a blessing,” stated Myers. “It makes me a lot more comfortable going out there and it makes hitters uncomfortable too.”

Currently working out of the D-Jays’ bullpen, Myers talks about what he likes about his relief role.

“The starter put in some good work and the ball gets handed to you to shut it down,” explained Myers. “You’re either the bridge guy or the closer. Sometimes you’re the guy who gets the ball to the closer and I like that a lot because you play an important role to help get them out of jams.”

Pitching the last two seasons at Auburn University was a good stepping stone for Myers into pro ball.

“The takes and pitch quality has to be a lot better in pro ball,” stated Myers. “Whereas in college you could get away with a little bit more, as far as how far away the catcher was, or what the umpire was giving. But with ABS you have to tone it in a little bit and throw a lot of strikes.”

Welcome, Carson Myers!
