Right-handed pitcher Aaron Munson has been pitching well during the month of June, as hitters are only managing a stingy .053 average against him this month.

“Just being in the strike zone more often,” Munson said of his June success. “Getting into good pitching counts, not going down 3-1 or 3-0, just avoiding those hitter counts. I’d say that’s the biggest adjustment to what’s helping me be more successful as of late. I’m also getting more confident on the mound on how to get guys out. I’m developing that idea of what I need to do out there each and every outing.”

His solid start to the month is moving his numbers in the right direction, as the righty has 20 K’s and a WHIP of 1.32 after 25 2/3 innings of work for High-A Vancouver.

Currently using a three-pitch mix of: a 4-seam fastball, a slider, and a changeup; Munson feels his pitches complement each other every outing.

“I work off my slider more than anything,” explained Munson. “As of late, my slider has been my most used pitch. I feel it’s the most comfortable pitch for me, as I can throw it in the strike zone more. It ends up setting up my fastball because I throw the slider so much. The slider moves away from righties and into lefties, and it allows me to throw a changeup after a few sliders and fastballs. I think everything complements each other in my arsenal.”

The righty feels his pitches tunnel well, too, “I cut all of my pitches,” Munson added. “They all tunnel, they all look similar because they have that cut spin to them.”

Keep it up, Aaron Munson!
