Right-handed pitcher Rafael Sanchez made history last night, as he threw a 7-inning no-hitter for the New Hampshire Fisher Cats’ during game one of their double-header versus the Altoona Curve.
In the contest, Sanchez recorded two strikeouts and was two walks and one HBP away from a perfect game.
The righty feels his off-speed pitches played a major role in the no-hitter, “The slider and the splitter were my best weapons last night,” explained Sanchez. “And with the fastball I attacked the corners a lot.”
Sanchez said he stayed cool throughout the game, “I wasn’t feeling anything,” Sanchez added. “I was just focused on locating my pitches well to have a good performance.”
That location is key in Double-A, as the hitters have advanced plate approaches at that level.
“Everyone here is a good hitter,” stated Sanchez. “They all have good mentalities to help them improve and move up to the MLB.”
The righty feels the no-hitter was a team accomplishment, “The celebration at the end was good because the team worked together so I could achieve that important victory in my career,” explained Sanchez. “And thanks to them, I achieved this accomplishment.”
Congratulations on your no-hitter, Rafael Sanchez!
