Left-handed pitcher Justin Bruihl joined the Toronto Blue Jays’ organization in March, as a minor league free agent signing.
Signed during spring training, Bruihl didn’t have his typical spring camp in 2025.
“Yeah, I trained the entire off-season waiting for an opportunity,” said Bruihl. “The Blue Jays’ signed me in mid-March, so camp was pretty much over. But I was throwing bullpens and live BP’s and all that stuff to prepare.”
The lefty offers bullpen pitching depth for sure, as he has pitched 76 big league innings to date.
Bruihl explains the difference between pitching in the minor leagues and the MLB.
“It’s kind of the same,” stated Bruihl. “There’s a bit of an adjustment to how fast it is in the majors, but after a while you slow it down.”
Pitching 17 2/3 innings for Triple-A Buffalo; Bruihl has 19 K’s and a WHIP of 1.19.
The lefty uses a four-pitch mix of: a cutter, a sweeper, a sinker, and a splitter.
Bruihl who entered pro ball with a cutter and sweeper combo talks about developing new pitches in pro ball.
“A lot of it is trial and error,” explained Bruihl. “A lot it is having good coaches that can help you find the right grip. I’ve had a lot good guys helping me over the years.”
Bruihl added the splitter this season, “I’ve added a little splitter this year to help a little bit against righties,” Bruihl added. “I haven’t used it a lot yet, but when I do, it seems to help a little bit.”
Be sure to watch for Justin Bruihl, as he looks to get back to the big leagues in 2025.
