Right-handed pitcher Jackson Wentworth is working out of High-A Vancouver’s rotation in his first professional season. Wentworth, who pitched 87 innings at Kansas State in 2024; was shutdown after the draft to help prepare him for a bigger workload in 2025.

“They shut me down as soon as I got to Florida because of how many innings I threw at Kansas State,” said Wentworth. “So, I just stayed there a couple of months to work out.”

“The Blue Jays’ told me they wanted me to be a starter in 2025,” Wentworth added. “So, I went with that and continued to work on my craft.”

Pitching 8 2/3 innings so far in 2025; Wentworth has racked up 8 K’s and has a WHIP of 1.27 after two starts for High-A Vancouver.

Currently using a four-pitch mix of: a 4-seam fastball, a cutter, a curveball, and a changeup; Wentworth likes to work backwards with his fastball.

“I usually work off my off-speed pitches instead of my fastball,” explained Wentworth. “I personally find it easier to use my fastball as a weapon, than to work off of it.”

The righty is using a different changeup in pro ball, “I feel my changeup is developing well,” Wentworth added. “I lost my 2-seam changeup when I came from Kansas State. I’m having a hard time getting that pitch back. I’ve decided to stick with my 4-seam changeup, and it’s developing well.”

Wentworth feels the hitters in High-A are more disciplined than college hitters, “I’ve noticed they’re a bit more disciplined in the batter’s box,” stated Wentworth. “But if I stick to how I’ve pitched my whole life, just attack the strike zone, and force weak contact, I should be good.”
