Infielder Tucker Toman has reported to Dunedin for spring training. Toman, who has spent the last two seasons playing for Dunedin is looking to build off of his time in the Florida State League in 2025.
“It has been a grind, but it has been one of the best things for me,” Toman said of the FSL. “Just understanding the perspective of what matters and growing on and off the field. It has been a grind, but it has been amazing at the same time.”
In those two years, Toman has developed a lot defensively. Drafted as a shortstop, Toman has grown at the position while also playing games at second base and third base.
“Danny Solano our old infield coordinator and my manager in Low-A Donnie Murphy has helped me a lot and all of the people in-between,” explained Toman. “I was drafted being more heavily on the offensive side than defensive side but it’s really coming along defensively and that has been a highlight for me. I know the Blue Jays’ takes pride in their defensive play.”
Playing second base was new for Toman in 2024, “I love every part of it,” said Toman. “It’s a different view, the footwork is different; but honestly with the more groundballs you get, the better you become.”
Toman slashed .221/.301/.318 after 289 at-bats in 2024.
The prospect feels his plate discipline is improving in pro ball, “That has been one of the biggest things for me learning the plate discipline and developing a professional approach,” stated Toman. “It has been a grind the last two years in Dunedin, but I think it’s on the upward turn now. I’m really excited for this season and how this will play out.”
