Prospect Drew Jemison joined the Toronto Blue Jays’ organization in June. Jemison, who began his 2024 season playing with the Lexington Legends of the Independent Atlantic League who are managed by Gregg Zaun.
Jemison slashed .271/.356/500 with an OPS of .856 after 118 at-bats; with Lexington before moving into affiliate ball.
Zaun helped Jemison with his plate approach while he was in Lexington, “I hit leadoff in college,” explained Jemison. “So, I was trying to just get on base, hit singles, and hit for some average; and I still feel that’s a big part of my game. But in Lexington, I was managed by former Blue Jays’ catcher Gregg Zaun, and he helped with my current approach. I’m trying to do a little more damage early on in counts and really drive the ball. We worked a lot on my timing, really getting on those fastballs early on in counts. He helped me immensely to get where I’m at right now.”
Jemison had 47 at-bats in the Blue Jays’ organization since being signed in June.
Finishing the season with Double-A New Hampshire, Jemison talks about the difference between Low-A and Double-A.
“In Dunedin, there were a lot of young guys with really good stuff,” stated Jemison. “In Double-A there are more polished pitchers. I felt like you couldn’t miss your fastballs otherwise your, at-bats got really tough.”
Defensive wise, Jemison can play any position besides catcher. A natural shortstop growing up, Jemison takes pride in his versatility.
“Yeah, I play all around, the only position I can’t really play is catcher,” stated Jemison. “I think it helps being able to play multiple positions, and I feel comfortable all around the field.”
