Right-handed pitcher Kevin Miranda has big plans for his off-season. Miranda, who missed some time in 2024 with an oblique injury is looking to get fully healthy and add a little more velocity this off-season.
“This off-season I’m going to be focusing on my body and getting stronger,” stated Miranda. “I’m going to focus on my oblique muscles and my velo for sure. The last couple years I have been throwing 89-90, so I feel if I can get my velo up, it’ll help me even more.”
Pitching 51 2/3 innings among four levels in 2024; Miranda finished his season with a 3.66 ERA, a WHIP of 1.08, and 35 K’s.
Currently using a three-pitch mix of: a 4-seam fastball, a slider, and a changeup; Miranda tries to use his fastball up in the zone.
“I try to throw my fastball up and my changeup down,” explained Miranda. “I feel that’s my game the up-and-down. My fastball is vertical, so it’s hard for the hitters to hit when it’s up.”
The righty feels all of his pitches tunnel well, “Yeah, they play well off one another.” said Miranda.
Using the changeup more frequently than the fastball and slider, Miranda talks about the development of his changeup.
“I started throwing it in JUCO with a teammate,” explained Miranda. “It’s a feel pitch for sure, you have to feel the changeup to throw it well. It’s a pitch that keeps getting better for me year after year.”
Finishing the year with Double-A New Hampshire, Miranda has noticed a difference with the hitters at the Double-A level.
“They wait for a specific pitch,” said Miranda. “You have to mix up your pitches more in Double-A and I feel like I’ve done well with that this season.”
Good luck this off-season!
