Outfielder RJ Schreck came over to the Toronto Blue Jays’ organization a month ago via a trade with the Seattle Mariners for Justin Turner.
“You never really expect to be traded at the deadline,” stated Schreck. “And especially not for such an established major leaguer like Justin Turner. That was definitely a shock, and from the outside looking in, a pretty cool moment.”
Currently slashing .257/.392/.475 with an OPS of .867 after 381 at-bats split between High-A and Double-A; Schreck talks about his plate approach.
“Every day you see good pitching and you’re trying to refine what works and what doesn’t work,” explained Schreck. “I’m just trying to be the best hitter I can be and doing what works best in the professional game.”
Schreck has 47 extra base hits on the season, which includes: 28 doubles, two triples, and 17 home runs.
“I’ve always viewed myself as a contact hitter that runs into some power,” Schreck added. “The more I refine my approach and look for pitches I can do damage on; the power comes from that. It has been a fun year.”
The prospect likes being able to play all three outfield positions.
“I enjoy playing all three outfield positions,” said Schreck. “It’s really fun out there.”
