Right-handed pitcher Colby Martin started pitching full-time in 2024 at Southeastern University. Martin, who was a two-way player prior to this year, as he split time at second base as well as the mound; is looking forward to bringing that athleticism to the Blue Jays’ system.

“This year was actually my first year pitching,” explained Martin, who was drafted in the 16th round yesterday. “It was pretty cool going through a full year of pitching and finding out exactly what that entails and what I have to do to get my body ready to pitch on a daily basis. I think going with the Blue Jays’ will be a really good organization for me to learn more about being a pitcher and I feel I’ll be even better than I am right now for sure.”

Pitching 16 1/3 innings out of the bullpen at Southeastern; Martin racked up 31 K’s and finished the season with a WHIP of 1.22.

The righty currently uses a three-pitch mix of: a 4-seam fastball, a curveball, and a changeup.

Martin feels his curveball plays well off his fastball, “My curveball and fastball play really well together, especially if I play the fastball at the top of the zone,” stated Martin. “My curveball is more of a 12-6 curveball, so I can play the curveball and it tunnels pretty well. It looks pretty much like the fastball until it drops off.”

And Martin enjoys coming into games during those high-leverage situations, “I love the high-leverage situations,” said Martin. “I love the adrenaline, I love playing in big games, and I loved hitting in big spots when I was still a hitter. I just love baseball.”
