Right-handed pitcher Landen Maroudis made his professional debut earlier this month. Maroudis, who turned pro straight out of high school, is enjoying his transition to pro ball so far.
“I like it so far,” said Maroudis. “It’s fun being able to have something to do every day and get my work done in the mornings and then watch a game at night. I enjoy being on a set schedule as well, knowing I’m throwing on the same day every week. That wasn’t always the case in high school.”
Maroudis has pitched well in his 10 2/3 innings of work this season. The righty currently has 12 K’s, a WHIP of 0.66, and an ERA of 0.84.
Opposing hitters are only managing a stingy .088 average against Maroudis as well.
The prospect talks about what he has noticed from the hitters in Low-A, “They have a game plan and approach when they are up to the plate,” stated Maroudis. “So, you have to be able to mix it up well and hit spots.”
Currently using a four-pitch mix of: a 4-seam fastball, a changeup, a curveball, and a slider; Maroudis explained why he added a slider this off-season.
“I added a harder, tighter slider over the off-season,” explained Maroudis. “I added the slider to bridge the gap between my fastball and curveball.”
Pitching in three games this season; Maroudis has made two starts and one relief appearance in 2024.
“Being able to go through your routine at your own pace is nice when starting games, as well as going deep into games,” stated Maroudis. “I haven’t relieved much yet, but it’s always fun coming out of the bullpen and closing out games.”
A Clearwater, Florida native, Maroudis feels at home pitching for the D-Jays’.
“I enjoy getting to come to the field and having a taste of what being a professional baseball player is like every day,” said Maroudis. “It’s also nice that it’s local so my friends and family can come to my games.”
Be sure to follow Landen Maroudis, as he continues to pitch well in the Blue Jays’ system.
