Infielder Tucker Toman is back home in South Carolina preparing for his third season of pro ball in 2024.
“I have a training facility that I workout at called Carolina Playmakers,” said Toman. “I can hit there, workout there, and I can hit and lift at school too. I’ve actually started hitting with Kyle Seager and I’m super thankful for that. He’s a great guy. He’s been awesome to work with, and I’m learning from him in all aspects of life and in the game; whether it’s hitting or defense – he’s a good dude to learn from.”
Toman slashed .208/.320/.313 with an OPS of .633 after 428 at-bats; with Low-A Dunedin in 2023.
“It’s a little bit different,” Toman said of the FSL. “The level of competition was definitely different. There are a lot of guys that are older, not too many guys who are younger, but it’s a great league. It’s a tough league to hit in, and a tough league to play in overall due to the heat. They put a few different aspects in, but it was a really good league talentwise.”
Showing some extra base potential, Toman finished the year with 24 doubles, three triples, and five home runs.
“I just let the game come to me,” explained Toman. “I’m not trying to do too much at the plate but put good wood on the ball. When you do that, good things happen. I credit my hitting coach Matty Young for helping me realize that I don’t have to do too much at the plate – what I can do is good.”
Splitting time between shortstop and third base in 2023; Toman talks about the two positions.
“The balls are hit harder at third, you have a little more time at short but need better footwork,” stated Toman. “I find them equally challenging, especially as you go up the levels because the balls are hit harder and skips off the grass and dirt a little bit differently.”
