Right-handed pitcher Landen Maroudis was selected in the 4th round (121st overall) out of Calvary Christian High School in Florida.
“My draft experience was great,” said Maroudis. “It was definitely an exciting two days, with the help of many people behind the scenes. At the end of day one I had an idea of where I was going to go during day two, so I was able to just relax with my family and enjoy the moment.”
He’s currently using a three-pitch mix of: a 4-seam fastball, a changeup, and a spike curveball.
His pitch mix worked well during his senior season of high school where he pitched 54 innings racking up 86 Ks with a 2.07 ERA.
Maroudis would like to add a fourth pitch in pro ball, “I’m looking to add a fourth pitch,” explained Maroudis. “I want to add a slider, but that is still a work in progress.”
He likes to use his fastball in different ways, “I can use my fastball any way,” stated Maroudis. “I like to get sinking action on it so that it misses bats or produces groundballs. I feel I can locate it very well so that I can set up my off-speed pitches later in the count to put hitters away.”
Now that he’s drafted, Maroudis is looking forward to all that his pro ball opportunity has to offer.
“I’m looking forward to taking my game to the next level with the help of the Blue Jays amazing facilities and their entire staff,” said Maroudis. “I’m excited to be able to face the best of the best and taking a step towards my childhood dream.”
Be sure to follow Landen Maroudis, as he takes the next step towards his dream of being a big leaguer.
