Day two of the MLB draft will begin today at 2 PM EST.
Last year, the Blue Jays’ signed all eight of their day two selections – hear what six of those eight selections had to say about the experience.
OF Alan Roden drafted in the 3rd round (98th overall) out of Creighton University –
“Last summer I was in the Cape Cod League right around draft time,” said Roden. “I basically played in the Cape all the way up to draft day. I was actually at my host parents house when I got picked. It was a pretty unique experience, I’d say. I had my dad and my girlfriend with me, so that part was pretty cool.”
RHP Ryan Jennings drafted in the 4th round (128th overall) out of Louisiana Tech University –
“It was an awesome experience,” said Jennings. “It was here and gone before I knew it. But I was able to take it all in with family and friends. It was truly an experience of a lifetime.”
LHP Mason Fluharty drafted in the 5th round (158th overall) out of Liberty University –
“It was actually kind of hectic because I didn’t have an agent,” explained Fluharty. “I did it all by myself. I just trusted the process, and trusted my college coaches to help me get through the draft. Luckily, I was picked up by the Blue Jays which has been a blessing in disguise. It has been great so far.”
RHP T.J. Brock drafted in the 6th round (188th overall) out of the Ohio State University –
“Getting drafted by the Blue Jays was definitely a lot of fun,” stated Brock. “It was really cool to have the draft camp experience to get acquainted with the Blue Jays and to see what the culture was like.”
1B Peyton Williams drafted in the 7th round (218th overall) out of the University of Iowa –
“It was pretty cool,” said Williams. “I was just kind of watching the draft with my family. It was kind of unexpected because I wasn’t talking to them, my agent was talking to them. My name popped up on the draft track and I was really excited. The Blue Jays were a team that I felt really wanted me before the draft.”
LHP Ian Churchill drafted in the 10th round (308th overall) out of the University of San Diego –
“It was great,” said Churchill. “I had no clue I’d be drafted on the second day. Being a fifth year in college I was kind of hoping for a free agent contract or something. But to get drafted on the second day was pretty awesome. It was definitely a crazy experience. It was just me and my mom in the kitchen watching it on my laptop, so she was there to celebrate with me.”
