Right-handed pitcher Rafael Sanchez had a busy off-season to help him prepare for the 2023 season.
“My off-season was really good,” said Sanchez. “I worked on the weight programs, improving my mechanics, and improving my slider.”
His off-season preparation is already paying off – as Sanchez has already received a promotion from Low-A to High-A last month.
Pitching 48 innings this season; Sanchez has racked up 52 K’s and has a WHIP of 1.17.
Sanchez talks about the difference between Low-A and High-A, “The batters in High-A are more selective with pitches,” explained Sanchez. “So it’s important for me to be more intelligent than the batters to have good starts.”
The righty also features a 4-seam fastball and a splitter to go along with his slider.
Sanchez is really focused on having a good fastball, “I have a throwing program with heavy balls to gain strength in my arm,” stated Sanchez. “I work from medium and long distance with these balls – so I have a good fastball.”
Be sure to follow Rafael Sanchez this season, as he continues to pitch well in the Blue Jays’ system.
