The biggest difference this season is that Jennings is stretching out more in games – as he has made five starts in his seven appearances.
“The main difference is really just getting a chance to have a full routine throughout the week,” Jennings said of starting. “In the bullpen your routine is different week to week whereas a starters routine should be the same every week.”
And Jennings is enjoying the extra coaching he is receiving this season, “The best thing about being in a professional rotation is how we are treated as professionals,” stated Jennings. “The coaches and managers are trying to force mechanical changes or change your pitches. Everything they give you is a suggestion. They understand it’s your career and whether you use the information is up to you.”
The righty has made slight adjustments to part of his repertoire since turning pro.
“I’ve slightly tweaked my changeup to have a better feel for it,” explained Jennings. “I’ve also added more horizontal movement to my slider.”
Jennings has pitched 21 innings so far this year racking up 35 K’s while maintaining a WHIP of 1.38.
