Right-handed pitcher Adrian Hernandez has one of the best changeups in the Toronto Blue Jays’ organization. Hernandez, who gets a lot of swings and misses on the pitch talks about what he likes best about it.

“I like the rotation and movement that my changeup does,” explained Hernandez. “What I enjoy the most is seeing the hitter swing and miss.”

Currently graded a 65 on the 20-80 grading scale, Hernandez uses his changeup frequently along with his 4-seam fastball and slider.

“I feel my slider and changeup tunnels well off my fastball sometimes,” said Hernandez. “I wouldn’t say they tunnel all the time.”

And the righty talks about how he tries to work off his fastball too, “I try not to be too perfect with the fastball,” stated Hernandez. “I really just try to hit the corners and get strikes with it.”

Beginning his 2023 season with Double-A New Hampshire; Hernandez has 4 K’s after his 3 2/3 innings of work.

Finishing last season with Triple-A Buffalo, Hernandez talks about the slight difference between the two levels.

“I wouldn’t say it’s a big difference,” said Hernandez. “I’d say the biggest difference is in Triple-A you face a lot of guys with big league time that came back. Other than that the baseball is the same at both levels.”

Be sure to follow Adrian Hernandez, as he continues to find success on the mound with his changeup for years to come.
