Infielder Cade Doughty is putting up big numbers at the plate in pro ball. Doughty is currently slashing .282/.393/.606 with an OPS of .999 after 71 at-bats; for Dunedin this season.
Doughty’s production is coming from his mature plate approach, “I want to hit the ball as hard as I can every at-bat,” explained Doughty. “I want to hit the ball up the middle and if I’m early, hopefully pull the ball over the fence. If I’m late, hopefully go oppo over the fence.”
But Doughty definitely sees himself as more than just a power hitter – he wants to be a ‘pure hitter’.
“I see myself as a pure hitter,” Doughty added. “Hitters – hit and at the end of the day I feel like I’m a hitter and however those hits come – they’ll keep coming.”
Doughty is also working hard in the field. Drafted as a second baseman out of LSU, Doughty has appeared in games at second base and third base so far for Dunedin.
“My development in the field has been good,” stated Doughty. “I try to stay versatile and be an asset out there on the field instead of a liability. If I’m able to play either or other positions to a high standard I’m happy to do that. I feel really good at both positions.”
And versatility is something that Doughty feels will help him move up the levels, “If I can play more positions that’ll obviously help me in the longer run,” Doughty added. “Just being able to have that versatility goes a long way.”
Be sure to follow Cade Doughty’s progress for years to come.
