Right-handed pitcher Ryan Jennings will be making his professional debut with the Low-A Dunedin Blue Jays soon. Jennings, who was Toronto’s 4th round pick (128th overall) out of Louisiana Tech a month ago; is ready to focus on baseball full-time.
“It’s funny but I think the thing I’m looking forward to most, at least right now, is not having to worry about school on the side of baseball,” said Jennings. “It’s awesome to be able to commit 100% of my time to my craft and my body as an athlete.”
Pitching 90 1/3 innings at Louisiana Tech in 2022; Jennings fanned 95 batters and maintained a WHIP of 1.16.
Jennings learned some valuable lessons at Louisiana Tech, “The biggest things I took from Louisiana Tech was a development of a routine and the importance of flipping the switch from bullpen to game mode,” explained Jennings. “Once I’m between the lines all that matters is competing – that was one of the toughest but most valuable lessons I learned.”
Entering pro ball with a four-pitch mix of a fastball, a curveball, a slider, and a changeup in his repertoire; Jennings likes to use his fastball as a set up pitch.
“I try to use my fastball as a set up pitch for my other pitches,” stated Jennings. “The fastball has some ride to it, so it plays well up in the zone.”
Pitch tunneling is also a major focus for Jennings, “Yes, a big focus for me is utilizing the tunneling of my fastball and breaking pitches,” said Jennings. “With my curveball being close to a 12-6 and my slider being 86-88 they both play really well off my fastball and tunneling is one of the things that really helps me have success.”
Welcome Ryan Jennings!
