Right-handed pitcher Jake Elliott joined the Toronto Blue Jays organization earlier this month. Elliott, who is currently pitching for Double-A New Hampshire has quickly become a staple in the Fisher Cats’ bullpen.
Racking up 10 K’s and maintaining a WHIP of 1.00 has been an excellent start to Elliott’s journey in the Blue Jays’ system.
Currently using a fastball, a changeup, and a slider in his repertoire; Elliott says his changeup is his best pitch.
“My changeup is my best pitch, and it always has been,” explained Elliott. “Most pitchers would say their best off-speed pitch was some sort of breaking ball, but not me. I attribute this to me not being able to throw a breaking ball until I was 14 years old. My coaches felt this was in the best interest of my arm health. Due to the breaking ball restriction, I was forced to develop a good changeup in order to be a successful pitcher.”
Being used as a bullpen arm since turning pro in 2016, Elliott has learned to embrace the role.
“I have definitely grown accustomed to that role and embrace it fully,” said Elliott. “I’d say my favorite part is the anonymity of not always knowing when you’re going in and that shot of adrenaline you get when you get told to start getting hot to go in the game.”
And Elliott is feeling right at home as a member of the Fisher Cats, “I am really enjoying the coaching staff and the players,” stated Elliott. “I was signed after the season started and when I showed up, it was a completely new organization. Everyone was super welcoming, and they embraced me right away which made the transition to this organization seamless.”
Welcome Jake Elliott!
