Right-handed pitcher Paxton Schultz joined the Toronto Blue Jays organization earlier this week. Schultz, who came over from the Milwaukee Brewers organization as part of the Derek Fisher trade is excited for his new opportunity with the Blue Jays.
“I’ve loved the Blue Jays organization so far,” said Schultz. “They’ve taken great care of me and made the transition pretty easy. I’ve heard a lot of good things about player development and I’m excited to be part of it.”
While, Schultz is excited for the new opportunity he admits that leaving his old teammates was tough.
“I loved my time with the Brewers,” explained Schultz. “They were the ones who drafted me and they treated me very well during my time there. I had a lot of good teammates and coaches that I’ll definitely miss but I’m excited for this new opportunity.”
And the Blue Jays are excited for Schultz’s development, too, as they look to develop him throughout their minor league system.
Entering the system with four pitches already in his repertoire – the righty uses a 4-seasm fastball, a 2-seam fastball, a slider, and a changeup; to keep hitters guessing.
Schultz goes into detail about his approach on the mound, “I play the changeup off the 2-seam fastball and the slider off the 4-seam fastball. I do that to try and create good tunneling between those pitches.”
With only 23 1/3 innings of professional pitching under his belt so far, Schultz will be looking to take off this season with the high-A Vancouver Canadians.
And as expected, Schultz is excited to be on the mound during a game for the first time since 2019.
“I’m just excited to be back on the field with a good group of guys,” stated Schultz. “Especially with losing the season last year this one is going to be exciting for a lot of people involved.”
Be sure to follow Paxton Schultz’s development this season and for years to come.
