Right-handed pitcher Anders Tolhurst is ready to begin his professional career in 2019. Tolhurst, who was a strike-throwing machine at Grossmont College this season racked up 83 K’s in 66 2/3 innings.

His ability to get hitters to swing-and-miss comes from the command he has for his three pitches. Currently, using a mix of a fastball, a curveball, and a changeup in his repertoire; Tolhurst admits that he tries to mix his pitches up every outing to keep hitters off-balance.

“I try to mix in my curveball and changeup a lot.” explained Tolhurst. “By adding my off-speed pitches often, it keeps the hitters guessing and off-balance.”

Another thing that helps the 23rd round pick is his ability to work fast on the mound, “I like to keep a quick tempo,” stated Tolhurst. “It helps with keeping my timing in sync, so that I’m able to work down and throw strikes.”

And his ability to work fast will come in handy in pro ball. But, for Tolhurst turning pro is more about achieving a childhood dream.

“I’m looking forward to playing baseball every day,” said Tolhurst. “Playing professional baseball has been a dream of mine since I was a kid.”

Be sure to follow Anders Tolhurst, as he fulfills his childhood dream in the Blue Jays system.
