Right-handed pitcher Maverik Buffo has done nothing, but impress in the early stages of his professional career.
Currently sporting an impressive 0.98 WHIP in his 13 1/3 innings with the GCL Blue Jays and there’s little question that Buffo is ready for a bigger challenge in the near future.
Finding success on the mound due to his five pitch repertoire; Buffo already features: a 4-seam fastball, a 2-seam fastball, a changeup, a slider, and a curveball.
Working ahead in counts with his fastball, Buffo explains the importance of the pitch to working in his secondary stuff.
“I like to use my fastball a lot,” explained Buffo. “I mainly use my fastball to attack hitters under their hands. When that happens I can throw something soft away or do the opposite and go hard away and soft in.”
His approach to pitching has definitely transitioned nicely to the professional game, as Buffo is maintaining a remarkable 11.5 K/9 ratio, while only walking one batter so far in the GCL.
Despite the hot start, Buffo knows there’s still a lot of work to be done before he’s a finished project. With that in mind, the righty is excited for the knowledge he’ll embark upon from the Blue Jays coaching staff in the upcoming seasons.
“I’m looking forward to working with the coaches as they help me develop and polish off my pitches,” stated Buffo. “I feel the new things I learn from the coaches will help me become a better pitcher and have a successful career as well.”
Toronto Blue Jays fans are looking forward to following Maverik Buffo’s career for years to come.
