Congratulations are due to the Lansing Lugnuts who have been recently entitled the Midwest League Eastern Division Champions for the first half of the 2012 season! The Lugnuts early success has a lot to do with a great pitching rotation. One of these stellar arms is RHP Aaron Sanchez.
Sanchez was drafted by the Blue Jays in the 1st round of the 2010 MLB draft out of Barstow High School in Barstow California and has since been rated by Baseball America as the Blue Jays’ 6th best prospect in their system.
Currently in Lansing Aaron is 5-0 with a 0.66 ERA with 47 strikeouts amd 21 walks in 12 appearances this season. Discussing the process of becoming a Blue Jay and his season thus far as a Lugnut, Sanchez said the following:
What did it feel like being drafted by the Toronto Blue Jays? – “It was an honour to be drafted by a great franchise.”
Did you have any colleges recruiting you when you were drafted? – “I actually signed with the University of Oregon before being drafted. I was recruited by many schools, but the chance of playing professional baseball was too good to pass up!”
Did you have a favourite player growing up? – “I never really had a favourite player as a kid.”
Did you have a favourite team growing up? – “Yes, the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim was my team.”
What do you consider your strengths as a pitcher?- “I consider my strength to by my really good fastball while I have a pretty good curveball as well.”
Did you have any goals for the remainder of the season? – “To improve my changeup.”
