Good article. The same type of article should have been written for Yu Dar, to calm everyone done. We have as much probability that Alvarez wins more games in the future than Yu. These are the odds that a MLB GM faces. I imagine that AA would stock pile quality prospects and develop them until they push the guys on the major league roster for a job. At that point AA can start to use the farm to his advantage. He has two strong options from there: 1. trade the older player to make room for the young guy and get more quality low level prospects, or 2. use the prospect to improve on the major league roster. I am a proponent of the first, since I believe it would give the Jays the best chance for long-term success.

Good Grief - the second line from the bottom SHOULD read -
"before LONG I expect to see a dozen or so Baby Jay's develop to at least..."

Proof read idiot - proof read - must of been the parallax view that got me.

"...some perspective is in order."

The problem with perspective is the parallax view.

While I agree with you generally - from where I sit - I've never seen so many above average prospects in our organization as we have now. No question - some - dare I say "most" - will fail. But, because we've more quality, and more deep quality, than we've ever had before I expect to see a dozen or so Baby Jay's develop to at least full time regular level - with us or the team AA trades them to - over the next 28 or so months (by July 2014).

April - looks like another character addition to the Jay's herd.

Interestingly, now that there are so many pitchers on each roster a guy like Gabe who can play multiple positions with some skill and have a bit of OBP and pop has a chance to be a super utility guy. It'll be interesting to see how he fits in.

God bless you Gabe. I havent watched baseball much si nce the players strike years back. Gabe, you have turned me into a Jays fan. Your Grandpa would be so proud if he could see you today. I'm proud of you too. Not only because you are a great athlete, but because you and your wife are great Christians. I love you both. Your old uncle

My wife and I have been season ticket holders in the California League for 25 years and have seen lots of great players over the years. Gabe's 2010 season in Rancho was special and it couldn't have happened to a nicer kid. I know that Gabe and Tanne's families are as proud of them as we are, not just for his baseball prowess but for being outstanding human beings.

April, nice piece. It is good to hear about potential new stars from a personal perspective. Great narrative. Great Quotes. Work like this helps Jays fans understand the players and their dreams as they work their way up.
