Frank Gailey, 26, has been traded to the Philles for OF Ben Francisco.

It’s another sad day in JaysProspects land.

Left-handed pitcher, Frank Gailey, has been traded to the Philadelphia Phillies for outfielder, Ben Francisco. While we are glad to see a new addition to the Major League team, we are sad to see Gailey go

Gailey, now 26, was originally drafted in the 23rd round of the 2007 draft by the Blue Jays. He spent five season with the Blue Jays organization, posting a 23-15 record, with a 2.45 ERA in 175 games played. In fact, in over 304.1 innings pitched, Gailey allowed only 13 homeruns, while he struck out 293 and only walked 69. His last 26 games were spent with the Dunedin Blue Jays, where he posted a 4-2 record with a 1.84 ERA in 26 games played.

In return for the left-handed pitcher, the Toronto Blue Jays received outfielder, Ben Francisco from the Philadelphia Phillies.

Francisco, once drafted in the fifth round of the 2002 draft by the Cleveland Indians is now becoming a member of the Blue Jays organization. 30 years of age, Francisco batted .244 with six homers and 34 RBIs in 100 games for the Phillies this past season. In seven minor league seasons with the Indians, Francisco batted .291 with 155 doubles, 20 triples, 66 homeruns, and 307 RBIs. While he made his major league debut in 2007 with the Indians,

Francisco batted .244 with six homers and 34 RBIs in 100 games for the Phillies this past season

he has since played in 460 major league games, maintaining a .261 average with 58 doubles, 28 homeruns and 99 RBIs. His Achilles heal appears to be strikeouts, however, as while he struck out 164 times during this time, he walked only 76 times. On the other hand, his main strength appears to be hitting lefties so his best position may be platooning with other outfielders, Eric Thames/ Travis Snider. Could another trade be in the works?

To make room on the 40-man roster for Francisco, the Blue Jays have also designated right-hander Jesse Chavez for assignment

JaysProspects wishes Frank Gailey the best of luck in the future with the Philadelphia Phillies. We also welcome Francisco to the Blue Jays’ organization.
