Blue Jays Minor League Transactions: August 8-14
Time again for Iain Sutherland (@Iainsut) to take a look at another week of minor league transactions in the Blue Jays system. This time he covers August 8 – 14. An interesting newcomer makes an appearance, as McGowan takes another step and an interesting if maybe early promotion.
August 8th
- Andrew Burns assigned to Vancouver Canadians from GCL Blue Jays.
- RHP Casey Lawrence assigned to Lansing Lugnuts from Dunedin Blue Jays.
- Lansing Lugnuts activated RHP Dustin Antolin from the temporarily inactive list.
- Kenen Bailli assigned to GCL Blue Jays.
- 1B Kevin Howard assigned to New Hampshire Fisher Cats from Las Vegas 51s.
- Las Vegas 51s placed LHP Sean Henn on the 7-Day disabled list.
- GCL Blue Jays placed LHP Zak Adams on the 60-Day disabled list
Anthopoulos has gone back to the well and found another Cuban import. This time 26 year old Kenen Bailli. Bailli from what I can find on him ranked fairly high in Cuban baseball and has since been assigned to Dunedin. I would not be surprised if he is given an invite to spring training for 2012.
August 9th
- Toronto Blue Jays called up RHP Henderson Alvarez from New Hampshire Fisher Cats.
- C Joe Bowen assigned to Dunedin Blue Jays from New Hampshire Fisher Cats.
- Toronto Blue Jays outrighted Wil Ledezma to Las Vegas 51s
Wil Ledezma having been outrighted to Las Vegas has been removed from the 40-man roster making room on the 40-man and 25-man rosters for Henderson Alvarez to join the big club.
August 10th
- OF Dalton Pompey assigned to Bluefield Blue Jays from GCL Blue Jays.
- RHP Dustin McGowan assigned to New Hampshire Fisher Cats.
- Kenllie Santana assigned to GCL Blue Jays from Bluefield Blue Jays.
- RHP Matt Daly assigned to Dunedin Blue Jays from New Hampshire Fisher Cats.
- Melvin Garcia assigned to GCL Blue Jays from Bluefield Blue Jays.
- RHP Nestor Molina assigned to New Hampshire Fisher Cats from Dunedin Blue Jays
Dustin McGowan continues his climb back to the majors taking over Henderson Alvarez’s roster spot in New Hampshire. Nestor Molina and Matt Daly traded spots with Molina moving up to the Fisher Cats and Daly sliding down to Dunedin.
August 11th
- SS Adeiny Hechavarria assigned to Las Vegas 51s from New Hampshire Fisher Cats.
- LF Darin Mastroianni assigned to New Hampshire Fisher Cats from Las Vegas 51s.
- New Hampshire Fisher Cats activated 1B Mike McDade from the 7-Day disabled list.
- RHP Misaul Diaz assigned to Bluefield Blue Jays from Lansing Lugnuts
Now this was a surprising move with Adeiny Hechavarria moving up to Las Vegas from New Hampshire. Hechavarria’s numbers likely would not qualify under normal circumstances to make the move, but he has a special circumstance attached to him. Namely when he signed with the Blue Jays he was placed immediately on the 40-man roster. This means for every year he spends in the minors, he burns an option year. If I read the rules correctly, he does have four-option years as opposed to the usual three (less than five years in professional baseball) but now having burned through two, the club is likely anxious to get a better look at what they have developed.
August 12th
- Dunedin Blue Jays placed OF Chris Hopkins on the 7-Day disabled list.
- Dunedin Blue Jays placed C Joe Bowen on the 7-Day disabled list retroactive August 11.
- OF Kenen Bailli assigned to Dunedin Blue Jays from GCL Blue Jays.
- Willie Collazo assigned to Dunedin Blue Jays from Las Vegas 51s
August 13th
- New Hampshire Fisher Cats placed RHP Deck McGuire on the 7-Day disabled list retroactive to August 11, 2011,
In Deck’s own words “I’m good! Just a little nicked up.” ‘Nuff said.
August 14th
- Vince Bongiovanni assigned to Dunedin Blue Jays from New Hampshire Fisher Cats.
- Vince Bongiovanni assigned to New Hampshire Fisher Cats from Toronto Blue Jays.
- Willie Collazo assigned to New Hampshire Fisher Cats from Dunedin Blue Jays
Willie Collazo playing yoyo with two days in Dunedin from Las Vegas and now landing with the Fisher Cats. Bongiovanni must wonder what was happening, returning to the Toronto system after most of a year away in the American Association and immediately getting bounced from NH to Dunedin. I hope his flight got rerouted.
Bonus!
August 15
- Toronto Blue Jays recalled Mike McCoy from Las Vegas 51s.
And the king of airmiles returns to Toronto with the hamstring injury to Rajai Davis.
The coming week of transactions should be interesting with the signing deadline for draftees eligible to play at the college level coming at Midnight Eastern August 15.
