Blue Jays Minor League Transactions: August 2-7
Time again for Iain Sutherland, (@IainSut), to look at the minor league transactions in the Blue Jays system covering August 2-7. Over this week, an old face returns to the organization, a much anticipated promotion and good news for the ever hopeful.
August 2
- Andrew Burns assigned to GCL Blue Jays from Toronto Blue Jays.
- C Joe Bowen assigned to New Hampshire Fisher Cats from Dunedin Blue Jays.
- Justin Jackson assigned to Dunedin Blue Jays from New Hampshire Fisher Cats.
- New Hampshire Fisher Cats placed 1B Mike McDade on the 7-Day disabled list retroactive July 31.
- SS Peter Mooney assigned to Bluefield Blue Jays from GCL Blue Jay
11th rounder shortstop Andrew Burns joined the organization and was sent to the GCL and has pounded a silly .625/.650/.813 line in his first 5 games. Joe Bowen continues to show that in the Blue Jays organization this summer, if you own a catcher’s glove you are going to tour the system. This would be Bowen’s third team his summer and probably not his last stop. Justin Jackson continues to bounce back and forth from Dunedin to New Hampshire and back and Mike McDade has a few days off to deal with a knee issue. Peter Mooney might develop a cult following if he keeps things up with the bat with an OPS out of the SS position hovering around 1.000.
August 3
- Tucker Jensen assigned to Bluefield Blue Jays from Lansing Lugnuts.
- RHP Casey Lawrence assigned to Lansing Lugnuts from Dunedin Blue Jays
The amazing traveling Tucker Jensen now having played in the GCL and Lansing now lands in Bluefield. He assures me that he is not in fact living in a bus shelter, but I do wonder if he should unpack. Vancouver next? Casey Lawrence seems to be building up some airmiles bouncing back and forth between Lansing and Dunedin.
August 4
- RHP Casey Lawrence assigned to Dunedin Blue Jays from Lansing Lugnuts.
- Lansing Lugnuts placed RHP Dustin Antolin on the temporarily inactive list.
- Las Vegas 51s activated LHP Luis Perez
Casey returns to Dunedin after one day in Lansing hopefully this is the last of his bouncing back and forth. Luis Perez was activated from his suspension and set up for the next day’s action.
August 5
- Dunedin Blue Jays activated RHP Asher Wojciechowski from the 7-Day disabled list.
- Toronto Blue Jays called up 3B Brett Lawrie from Las Vegas 51s.
- RHP Chad Gaudin assigned to Las Vegas 51s from Toronto Blue Jays.
- RHP Dustin McGowan assigned to Dunedin Blue Jays.
- Las Vegas 51s activated 3B Jayson Nix from the 7-Day disabled list.
- Toronto Blue Jays recalled Luis Perez from Las Vegas 51s.
- Las Vegas 51s placed RHP Scott Richmond on the 7-Day disabled list.
The major news on this day is the call up of Brett Lawrie and recall of Luis Perez to Toronto. Although the transactions do not show it at this point, Travis Snider went the other direction and typically has 3 days to report to the minor league club. Chad Gaudin returns to the organization after having been released by the Nationals, likely to just give depth in Las Vegas. Dustin McGowan returns to action after resetting his 30 day clock.
August 6
- Lansing Lugnuts placed RF Michael Crouse on the 7-Day disabled list. Strained quad.
- Las Vegas 51s activated RHP Mike MacDonald from the 7-Day disabled list
August 7
- Eli Boike assigned to Lansing Lugnuts from Bluefield Blue Jays
Eli is yet another player getting a taste of the entire low minors this season. This would be a second go in Lansing after also visiting Bluefield and Vancouver.
And that covers it for another week. In the coming week I expect we’ll see a number of high draft picks signed and assigned to the GCL. Other surprises might occur as we are also still in the middle of the waiver wire trade season.
